High School Preparation Program

This program is designed for students who will be attending English High Schools anywhere in Canada. The purpose of this preparation course is to teach students about such important subjects as Canadian lifestyles, School lifestyles, High School study methods, Teacher expectations, and to be sure you have the required English skills. We want each student to gain the ability to handle the expectations placed upon them when integrating into a new and foreign society. We also want each student to gain the ability to advance at their optimal pace in High School.
Examples of program content are;
- High School vocabulary
- Reading skills
- Listening skills
- Grammar
- Pronunciation
- High School slang and idioms
- Conversation skills
- Daily needs fulfillment
- Canadian culture
- Oral presentations
- Student question periods
- Guest speakers
- Simulated High School examination
- Outings to learn about: Bus transportation, Supermarkets, Banks, Hair Salon/Barber, High School tour, Law in Daily Life, Public Library, Public Recreation etc.

About Your Study Permit
Important points to remember if you are continuing on to a Canadian High School before returning to your home country:
- You will receive two letters of acceptance;
- one from Comox Valley International College(CVIC)
- one from your Canadian High School District
- When you apply for your Study Permit you must tell the Canadian authorities that you need authorization to attend both CVIC and your High School. Be prepared to give the correct dates of attendance.
The High School English Preparation Program is divided into two categories;
Category 1
Program for individual students
- Mornings: Intensive English.
- Afternoons: High School Preparation as described above.

Free Services Included in Tuition
- Arrival and departure assistance.
- Introductions, by CVIC staff, to your Host Family.
- Information package presented on arrival.
- Laminated photo identification card.
- Downtown orientation tour led by CVIC staff.
- CVIC language testing service.
- Provincial medical plan registration (when needed).
- Instruction in how to establish and use a Bank Account.
- Public Library card with free internet and email access.

Program for student groups
- Group must be a minimum of ten students.
- You will receive a custom package designed to your needs.
- Your group will be kept together as one class. (We will insure there is plenty of interaction with the other students and Canadians)
- You will receive your own teacher and classroom.
