Medical Insurance

If you do not have medical insurance, health care can be very expensive. It is compulsory for all students/clients to purchase at least three months of adequate private medical insurance. After the first three months of your stay in British Columbia our government's "British Columbia Medical Services Plan" will replace your private insurance. This plan is mandatory for all British Columbia residents.

If CVIC Registers Student

• CVIC will arrange for private medical insurance through our insurance provider.
• CVIC will complete the registration for the "British Columbia Medical Services Plan". (If you will be staying for more than three months)
• CVIC will charge you $20 for this service.

If Student Registers Self

• You may purchase insurance in your home country or you may purchase insurance, online, through our insurance provider.

As a student of "Comox Valley International College" you will receive special rates. You should purchase insurance so that it is effective on the first day you enter Canada.

Note: Be sure to register with CVIC first so that your insurance application is accepted.

• If you plan on residing in British Columbia for more than three months you must register for our government medical insurance plan (MSP). Forms and assistance are available at CVIC Administration.

As of June 1, 2007 the monthly MSP premium structure is as follows;

• One Person.....................................$54.00/Month
• Family of Two Persons....................$96.00/Month
• Family of Three or more Persons.....$108.00/Month

Most prescription drugs and most dental services are not covered by MSP medical insurance and will be the sole responsibility of the student/client. Prescription drugs and dental services can usually be paid for by either cash or major credit card.
